27 November, 2024

India is set to launch its first high-speed train capable of reaching speeds of up to 280 km/h, a significant milestone in its rail infrastructure development. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai has partnered with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) to design and manufacture these state-of-the-art trains. Two trainsets, each consisting of eight fully air-conditioned cars in a chair car configuration, will feature modern amenities such as reclining seats, sealed gangways, advanced HVAC systems, and onboard infotainment, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.

The cost per coach is estimated at ₹27.86 crore, with delivery expected by 2026. These trains align with the "Make in India" initiative, following the success of the Vande Bharat trains. In parallel, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is progressing, aiming to integrate these high-speed trains into India's rail network【12】【13】【14】.
